Traditional fishingboat (håvbåt) in central Stockholm

Now in the early summer 2006 our newbuilt traditional fishingboat will take to the water, in central Stockholm.

The boat is a copy of the original boats used by the very special fishermen fishing the stream waters since the 17 th century.It has taken time and effort to find original drowings and models from which we have been able to drow the original boat. It has been our main goal to use materials,colours and building technics as close as possible to the original boats..

We think it is very important to preserve and even develop traditions that are disapering. Since there was only one boat left that have some similar characteristics with the originals we decided to perform this project. Now days nobody needs to fish in central Stockholm for their living but this tradition and thiese boats have become a well known part of the Stockholms picture.There are few people that have not heared or seen these boats in Stockholöm for the past 250 years.

We thank Magnus Åfelt, the ship builder. His engagement and knowledge has made this project possible.

We also thank the Shipbuilding school in Skepsholmen, Stockholms Stadsmuseum, Stockholms Hamn and Stockholms Fritidsförvaltning.

You will be able to see the boat in front of the Opera House, in the middle of the city. We aim to rent it to filmmakers, private individuals and groups, that wants an experience of this traditional fishing.

In the Stockholms stream you can catch a great variety of fish in the middle of the city, and among them the wild red salmon.
